The Zone Technique believes that the body operates like an electrical device. As such, each zone is regulated by a specific center of the brain (formed during the embryonic stage), with each center considered a “positive pole.” There are also “negative poles” which exist in certain areas of the spinal cord according to Zone methodology. So, if a disturbance exists, the brain’s centers can essentially be “shorted out,” causing them to malfunction.
There are six zones of the body that, when disturbed by emotional, physical, or chemical stressors, can lead to a variety of diseases and discomforts. Those six Zones are:
The Glandular System
The body’s thermostat
The Eliminative System
The body’s waste disposal plant
The Nervous System
An intelligent commnuication network
The Digestive System
Supplying the energy for life
The Muscular System
The framework of the the body
The Circulatory / Lymphatic System
The body’s plumbing system
At The Center for Life Enhancement, we use the Zone Technique to assess every patient in our practice. By balancing the Zones, your body can begin to heal itself and function as created. Determining which Zone is out of balance on each visit is done by checking specific points on the back of an individual’s head. This lets us and the practice member know which Zone needs balancing and when it is functioning correctly.
The Zone Technique is not a medical treatment but a method to determine the cause of imbalance in the brain, a way to correct that imbalance so that healing can take place, and a method of letting the practice member know balancing has been successful. In my 30 years of practice, I have found the Zone Technique to be one of the most powerful and accurate ways of testing and helping the body to heal. It is gentle and specific, and the changes I see in computerized nervous system scans are better than anything I have witnessed before.
How Our Zone Technique Care Plan Works
Identifying The Cause
We listen to you, and more importantly, we hear you. We take this information, along with utilizing two state-of-the-art computerized technologies, to determine what is going on in your body and how this affects your health. We then devise a personalized plan to help you reach your goals.
Specific Chiropractic Care
Based on what we find in your computerized exam, we now know exactly how to adjust you. At each visit, we determine where to adjust you based on which zone of your brain is imbalanced on that visit. Adjustments are performed with the best instruments in the industry so that they are precise, extremely gentle, and tailored to your body’s needs.
Accelerate Your Healing
Research has shown that your brain is most open to change for 20 minutes after a chiropractic adjustment. That being so, why would we immediately send you out into the world that put you in the condition you came in with? We don’t! We maximize that period after your adjustment with our groundbreaking Transformation Stations, which accelerate healing and contribute to permanent positive changes and habits.
How We Use The Zone Technique in Woodstock, GA
Comprehensive Consultation and Exam
In our office, we take the time to listen to you. During the consultation, we explain how our office is different to lay a foundation for why we will be asking you the questions we ask. We dig deep into your health, not only the area of complaint because we know that the nervous system controls every aspect of your body. We would be remiss if we didn’t understand how your entire body is functioning, and we do that by listening to you.
We conduct various exams during your first day, including a computerized neurological exam, a computerized postural exam, and checking grip strength and pulse oximetry. These exams let us know how your brain and body are processing stress and how your posture affects your overall health. It also helps us determine muscular strength imbalances, pulse rate, and blood oxygenation. We’ll be able to see how Zone imbalances are affecting your entire body. Once it has been determined that there is an issue in how the brain and nervous system communicate with the rest of the body, only then do we check to see which Zones need balancing, which is done at each visit.
The beauty of the Zone Technique is it gets to the root cause of the problem. We can tell exactly which Zone is out of balance, balance that Zone on each visit, and allow the proper signals to be sent from the brain to all of the cells, organs, and systems under the control of that area of the brain so true healing can begin.
Chiropractic Care
A subluxation is when a vertebral segment is out of position with the one above and below it, causing a disruption not only in motion but in the proper transmission of the nerve signals from the brain and spinal cord to the end organ, gland, or muscle. The disruption of these signals results in nerve energy flowing like a trickle instead of a fire hose, and that area’s health and proper function are both limited.
There are specific, gentle subluxations associated with each of the Zones. How we correct your subluxation is dictated by the computerized neurological exam you had. While the Zone Technique focuses on brain function and normalizing the signals sent from the brain to the body, when specific subluxations are corrected, they help reset the area or Zone of the brain involved and free up energy.
Exercise and Movement
Age-related muscle loss, called sarcopenia, is a natural part of aging. After age 30, you begin to lose as much as 3% to 5% per decade. Most men will lose about 30% of their muscle mass during their lifetimes. Less muscle means greater weakness and less mobility, both of which may increase your risk of falls and fractures. A 2015 report from the American Society for Bone and Mineral Research found that people with sarcopenia were 2.3 times more at risk of having a low-trauma fracture from a fall, such as a broken hip, collarbone, leg, arm, or wrist.
Physical activity decreases the risk of a network of diseases, and exercise may be prescribed as medicine for lifestyle-related disorders such as type 2 diabetes, dementia, cardiovascular diseases, and cancer. Not only do regular movement and exercise benefit your health by slowing or even reversing sarcopenia, but muscle is now considered a gland because when you exercise, it releases hormones known as myokines. Recent scientific advances show that skeletal muscle produces myokines in response to exercise, which allows for crosstalk between the muscle and other organs, including the brain, adipose tissue, bone, liver, gut, pancreas, vascular bed, and skin, as well as communication within the muscle itself.
Everyone can benefit from exercise as well as general fitness. Although both are beneficial, they are not interchangeable terms. Exercising is performing strength training to improve muscle strength and growth, while fitness is movement such as walking, cycling, or playing a sport. You should include both as a part of your healthy lifestyle to get the best benefit.
Nutritional Guidance
Some people view diet as a 4-letter word. In reality, it is an explanation of how/what you eat. Eating healthy, whole foods with proper supplementation when deemed necessary is considered a healthy diet, whereas eating processed foods loaded with unhealthy additives is considered an unhealthy diet.
Eating whole foods with minimal processing is healing to the body and gives you the proper building blocks to heal and repair. Eating processed foods with lots of plant/seed oils is unhealthy and promotes inflammation, which does the opposite of healing when induced by foods.
Whole foods, grass-fed meats and organs, raw milk, organic fruits and vegetables, real butter, and eggs are all loaded with the nutrients, proteins, fats, and carbohydrates your body needs to get and stay healthy.
Supplementation is great when you use it as intended, to supplement. This means you are supplementing your diet with something you may be deficient in so that your nutritional intake is more balanced. I recommend a good Creatine Monohydrate supplement, as this is the most researched supplement out there and has shown to have good benefits for brain health and muscle in other areas of the body. Creatine is typically found in meat, making it hard to get the daily recommended amount of 5g. This makes supplementing beneficial. A good fermented cod liver oil is also helpful for naturally occurring vitamins A and D, inflammation, reduction, joint pain, and eye health.
The Six Zones
The Glandular System
Zone 1 is the Glandular System, which controls all the glands in your body. Vital organs that make up this system include the glands of your head and immune system, your pineal and pituitary glands, the glands of your stomach, mammary glands, thyroid, adrenals, pancreas, liver, glands of the kidney, uterus, ovaries, and prostate and gonads.
Your glands contribute to your health on so many levels, such as your immune system, memory, energy and concentration, digestion, sleep, elimination, emotional balance, and even your outlook on life. When this Zone is out of balance, you can experience low energy, poor concentration, skin and digestive issues, elimination problems, infertility, trouble relaxing, emotional imbalance, and even a poor outlook on life.
The Eliminative System
The Eliminative Zone governs all the areas of your body involved in elimination, from your sinuses down to your bowels and everything in between. Without a proper elimination system, you can suffer from skin, breathing, constipation, and digestive issues.
The organs and tissues that fall under the Eliminative Zone include but are not limited to the sinuses, nasal passages, throat, bronchial tubes, lungs, kidneys, bladder, small intestine, colon, and skin. When your Eliminative Zone is out of balance, you could experience allergies, mucus buildup, constipation, asthma, and eczema, among other things.
The Nervous System
The Nervous Zone is the zone that controls your entire nervous system, including your brain, spinal cord, and all the nerves in your body. The nervous system comprises your brain, spinal cord, and all of the nerves in your body, and it also is directly connected to your eyes, ears, sense organs, digestion, reproductive organs, elimination, and hormonal balance.
Your brain controls and regulates all the other systems in your body, so a healthy nervous system goes a long way in having good overall health. When your Nervous Zone is out of balance, you can experience vision and hearing issues, loss of taste or smell, poor digestion and elimination, the inability to relax or sleep soundly, poor reproductive health, hormonal imbalance, an unhealthy appetite, and more frequent colds and illnesses.
The Digestive System
The Digestive Zone affects everything involved in proper digestion, from your taste buds to your intestines. Proper digestion and assimilation are imperative for you to use the foods you eat to heal and have abundant energy to get through your day.
The essential organs and tissues that comprise the Digestive Zone include your liver, salivary glands, gallbladder, pancreas, bowels, stomach glands, and intestines. When the Digestive Zone is imbalanced, you can experience an abnormal appetite, things can taste funny, excess or too little saliva production, digestion and elimination issues, abnormal weight, low energy, and food allergies.
The Muscular System
The muscular system includes all the muscles in the body, from the ones that move your limbs to the ones that move your food through your body. A healthy muscular system allows pain-free movement, bending, flexibility, strength, spinal alignment, and balance.
When your Muscular Zone is out of balance, you can experience tightness, instability, poor balance/center of gravity, inability to relax, problems moving/walking, and poor strength, as well as issues affecting your immune system and spinal alignment.
The Circulatory System
The Circulatory Zone involves everything that circulates, whether blood, lymph, or cerebral spinal fluid. The organs and tissues in the Circulatory Zone include your thyroid gland, the blood and lymph vessels in your body, your heart, and the meninges covering your brain and spinal cord. Healthy circulation of blood, lymph, and cerebral spinal fluid allows for proper oxygenation of blood, removal of waste products from the blood, proper immune function, and bathing your brain in cerebral spinal fluid for nutrition and waste removal.
Some symptoms that can occur when the Circulatory Zone is imbalanced include high or low blood pressure, lack of ease, heart issues, poor circulation, hand and foot coldness, and inability to relax.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Zone Technique in chiropractic?
The Zone Technique is a specific approach to chiropractic care developed by Dr. Thurman Fleet. It is based on the concept that the body is divided into six zones, each associated with specific areas of the brain, which control corresponding organs, tissues, and physiological functions. Chiropractors aim to restore health and promote healing throughout the body by identifying and addressing imbalances or blockages within these zones.
How does the Zone Technique differ from traditional chiropractic methods?
While traditional chiropractic primarily focuses on spinal adjustments, the Zone Technique takes a broader perspective by balancing the brain via the zones to affect the body’s overall health. It involves specific contacts and pressure points related to the zones rather than solely focusing on spinal adjustments. The Zone Technique aims to address the root cause of health issues by restoring balance within the body.
What conditions can the Zone Technique help with?
The Zone Technique is believed to have a broad range of applications and may help with various health conditions by allowing the body to begin to function optimally and heal itself. Some common examples include headaches, digestive disorders, musculoskeletal pain, allergies, hormonal imbalances, and stress-related issues. By rebalancing the zones, chiropractors aim to improve the body’s innate ability to heal and function optimally.
How can chiropractic care and the Zone Technique be beneficial for overall well-being?
Chiropractic care and the Zone Technique aim to restore balance and alignment within the body, which can positively impact overall well-being. By addressing misalignments in the spine known as subluxations and improving the function of the nervous system, chiropractic adjustments may help reduce pain, increase mobility, and enhance the body’s natural ability to heal.
With a focus on rebalancing the body’s zones, The Zone Technique aims to balance the brain to be able to support optimal organ function, hormone regulation, and overall physiological harmony, potentially leading to improved energy levels, better sleep, and an enhanced sense of well-being.
How can chiropractic care and the Zone Technique complement traditional medical treatments?
Chiropractors often work in collaboration with other healthcare professionals to provide integrative care. Chiropractic adjustments and the Zone Technique can allow the body to function as it was meant to. Some of the benefits of this are alleviation of musculoskeletal pain, improved range of motion joint mobility, and most importantly, enhanced overall nervous system function to support the body’s healing process.
