Fighting Chronic Fatigue Syndrome with Stress Management | Chiropractor in Woodstock, GA
Hey everybody, Dr. John here from the Center for Life Enhancement in Woodstock, Georgia. Today we’re talking about fighting chronic fatigue syndrome with stress management. So, number one, of course, as a chiropractor, I know that balancing out the brain and nervous system allows your brain to get out of that fight or flight. Some people have the foot on the accelerator going from heightened states and back into rest, heal and repair. Going back and forth is needed for managing stress because your nervous system is how your body processes stress. But what about other ways?
Stress Management
Well, a good night’s sleep is going to help. You probably notice that if you had a bad night’s sleep you’re more stressed the next day, you act more stressed, more edgy. High caffeine can cause you to be stressed and jittery. If you’re normally having caffeine, of course, and you miss a day, you could feel more stressed because of that. So that’s a tightrope there. Breathing is huge. Well, what does breathing have to do with stress? Breathing is hugely important because breathing can temporarily shift you out of that stressed fight or flight state into more of a parasympathetic state. The breathing that I like the best is called “Box” breathing. I’m just going off the cuff, how I practice it, you just sit quietly, you want to breath deep in your belly, you don’t want to be a chest breather. You want to really, as you inhale, use your gut and let your belly fill up with air. Then as you exhale, feel it all come out. You want to do a slow inhale, counting in your head for four seconds, hold for four seconds, exhale for four seconds. Then hold out again for four seconds and do that a few times with slowed, focused breathing. That will go a long way in helping manage stress throughout the day. So if you’re at work, you’re having a rough time with kids or something like that just take a minute for this exercise. Take a few of those deep, calming breaths. It’s going to help relieve stress and hopefully prevent the flare up if you’re suffering with chronic fatigue syndrome.
So I hope that was helpful. Again, this is Dr. John D’Ambrosio from the Center for Life Enhancement, contact our office for more information!
